The Moore Wright Group Announces Strategic Operational Changes to Preserve Core Services and Strengthen Organizational Stability

Aberdeen, WA — The Moore Wright Group (TMWG), a BIPOC-led Washington State nonprofit providing supportive housing, re-entry stabilization, statewide disaster distribution, food access, workforce development, and community resource programs, today announced several strategic operational changes designed to safeguard the organization’s long-term stability and preserve essential services.

These measures include a Reduction in Force (RIF), schedule adjustments across TMWG facilities, and a focused restructuring of programs and organizational operations.

External Delays and Funding Pressures Heighten Need for Realignment

Over the past year, TMWG has experienced significant external challenges—including delays in revenue-critical project activation, extended local policy and approval processes affecting facility usage, and slowing reimbursement timelines. These pressures, compounded by sharp declines in unrestricted funding and the historically limited resource environment in rural communities, have created a financial gap that required immediate action.

After a thorough financial and programmatic review, the Executive Leadership Team and TMWG Board of Directors unanimously approved a plan to realign operations to match current resources and contract requirements.

Core Programs Will Continue

Despite the difficult decision to reduce personnel and adjust operations, TMWG remains committed to sustaining its most critical community services, including:

  • Supportive housing & re-entry stabilization

  • Statewide disaster distribution

  • Recovery-focused resource connection services

  • Workforce development programming

“We had hoped to expand our cold weather shelter capacity this season. However, delays in facility activation and prolonged approval processes have limited our ability to add any emergency beds at a time of significant community need,” said Tanikka Watford, Executive Director. “Additionally, we can no longer afford to continue unfunded food programs or individual community distributions. These pauses deeply sadden us, but they are necessary to protect our core services.”

Key Components of the Operational Changes

The restructuring includes:

  • Friday closures for all TMWG facilities

  • Targeted staffing adjustments and hour reductions based on funding availability and program usage

  • A Reduction in Force, implemented with dignity, clarity, and support for affected employees

  • Exploration of strategic asset liquidation to strengthen long-term sustainability

All affected staff were notified individually and provided guidance regarding next steps, transitional supports, and—with some roles—opportunities for future contracted work.

Looking Forward

These changes support a broader stabilization strategy designed to protect the organization’s long-term mission.

“Our mission remains unchanged,” said Watford. “We are taking proactive, responsible steps to ensure that The Moore Wright Group can continue serving this region and this state for many years to come. These decisions allow us to stabilize now, so we can rebuild stronger and more sustainably in the future.”
